HARVEY CLIFFORD LOWRY, 33º
August 11, 1938 – January 29, 2017
It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of our beloved brother, Illustrious Brother Harvey C. Lowry, 33º, on January 29, 2017. He was a Sovereign Grand Inspector General, 33º, Honorary Member of the Supreme Council, receiving the Thirty-third Degree on August 29, 1989, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Ill. Brother Lowry was born on August 11, 1938 in Covington, Kentucky. He graduated from Hughes High School in Cincinnati and received trade school education in the IBEW/NECA Apprenticeship program with Local 212, IBEW, in Cincinnati. He worked as a journeyman electrician for several contractors in the Cincinnati area, and then was employed by Belcan Engineering Services Inc. at an Electrical Construction Manager.
He was married on August 22, 1958 to Janice Irene Boese, and is survived by his wife and his children, Kathleen, Elizabeth Witham, and David (Kim). He is also survived by seven grandchildren, his brother, sister-in-law, and innumerable Masonic friends.
He was raised a Master Mason in E.T. Carson Lodge #598 in Cincinnati on December 19, 1959. He served as Worshipful Master of E.T. Carson in 1970. At his passing he was a member of Kilwinning Lodge #356, where he had served as Worshipful Master in 2006, and an honorary member of Western Hills-Cheviot #140 and Delhi Hills #775.He served as District Deputy Grand Master of the First Masonic District in 1977, 1978, and 1979. He further served the Grand Lodge of Ohio as a member and chairman of the Credentials Committee for many years.
He was a member of Cincinnati Chapter #2, R.A.M., Cincinnati Council #1, R. & S.M. and Hanselmann Commandery #16, K.T.. He was also a member of Syrian Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S., and St. Columba Conclave, Red Cross of Constantine, where he served as Puissant Sovereign and also as Intendant General for Ohio West. At the time of his passing he was the Illustrious Grand Sentinel for the United Grand Imperial Council Red Cross of Constantine. He was a Senior DeMolay of Oola Khan Chapter, and was for many years a DeMolay advisor, receiving the Advisors Honor Key, Advisors Cross of Honor, and the Active Legion of Honor. He was also a member of Jacques DeMolay Council #371, Allied Masonic Degrees, Marvin Chapter #376, Order of the Eastern Star, and had served as President of the First Masonic District Officers Association, Society of Past Masters, and the Masonic Veterans Association of Ohio. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps, achieving the rank of Corporal.
Ill. Brother Lowry joined the Valley of Cincinnati in November, . He was appointed to the line of Ohio Consistory, and served as Commander-in-Chief from 1988-1990.
Visitation will take place at the Spring Grove Funeral Home, 4389 Spring Grove Avenue, Cincinnati, OH, 45223 on Thursday, February 1, 2017 from 5-9 p.m. with a Kilwinning Lodge #356 service and a Scottish Rite 33° Convocation of Memory at 8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Norman Chapel at Spring Grove Cemetery, 4521 Spring Grove Avenue, 45232, Friday, February 3, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Children’s Dyslexia Center of Cincinnati, 317 E.
